My daughter sat her English exam in the summer of 2024. She had a complete panic attack on the day of her exam and was so disappointed when she got her grade 5 in August. I assured her it was a pass and that given what had happened on the day, she had done so well. Anyway, she wasn’t happy as she knew she was capable of so much more.
Her confidence was low so I asked around for an English tutor and Carla Clay was recommended to us.
My daughter only had a handful of lessons with Carla and she re-sat her exam in November. In such a short space of time the change in her attitude and her confidence was tenfold and that was down to Carla. She saw her potential in her and told her that and worked with her on a few techniques that she could utilise in the exam.
My daughter got her result last week and got a grade 7. She was so so happy as was Carla when I called to tell her. My daughter’s words were ‘Carla helped me so much and she is a good tutor genuinely’.
Thanks again Carla. She is still on cloud 9! x

It is my pleasure to recommend Carla at Chrysalis for her exceptional tutoring skills in GCSE English Language and Literature preparation, together with her in depth knowledge and understanding of how best to support young people with specific learning difficulties, including dyslexia. Carla has worked tirelessly with my son by way of online tutorials through some challenging months in the run up to summer exams in 2023 and helped him to regain his self-confidence after struggles with mock exams. She has built him up again by keeping things clear, enjoyable and positive so he has not been overwhelmed with the immensity of the task ahead, but instead has felt that she has been by his side to show him how it can be done. This approach has had wider and unexpected benefits in learning how to cope with exams generally and feeling prepared, so Carla has in many ways been a life coach too! I cannot recommend her highly enough and have been amazed at what has been achieved in a short space of time when our son felt that all was lost. Whatever the outcome for him in terms of exam grades, the individualised tutorial support has kept him both engaged and motivated and he has also acquired some important skills learnt from Carla as he moves into the next phase of education.
With our very many thanks and best wishes,

Throughout the course of my English GCSE, Mrs Clay helped me to reach my goal of a grade 7 in both English literature and language by providing in-depth notes, and analysis, in addition to quality teaching.
Furthermore, over the years of being in her lessons, Mrs Clay helped me with my lack of confidence both in and out of the classroom, by giving me the extra support I needed to finally start believing in my abilities as a student.

Carla is an amazing tutor!
I can’t recommend her highly enough.
Over the space of a year, Carla tutored my son for GCSE English (language & literature). Her approach was engaging and friendly which ensured his attention. She was instrumental in him passing with flying colours (doubling the expected scores at the start of term). We were so lucky to have found Carla!

I cannot recommend Carla highly enough. She tutored my daughter for 12 months on a private basis for GCSE English Language and Literature. Her energy and enthusiasm is infectious and my daughter thrived in her confidence levels. Carla is highly experienced and even offered revision sessions the evening before exams to further support and encourage best performance. Carla was instrumental in making my daughter believe that she could achieve and is truly inspirational for young people

Mrs Clay is an exceptional and inspiring teacher who really helped to develop my language and analytical skills in English. She is highly supportive and attentive to the individual needs of students, allowing them to reach their full potential. I am incredibly grateful to Mrs Clay for her dedication to teaching, as it has given me more self-confidence and has ultimately allowed me to succeed in achieving my dreams.

I will be forever grateful for the time and support Carla gave my daughter, who went from below average and had a dislike for English in early secondary school to becoming so passionate about the subject. Carla’s encouragement was over and above and made by daughter believe in herself and now she is predicted straight A* in all her A levels. As I said, forever grateful
